Does God Pattern His Character Traits After Ours?
Regarding the question, Are You Saved Yet, all too often we fall into the trap of thinking that God is like us. Within the parameters of most religions, such a consideration is usually not part of the doctrine, but within the ever expanding concepts of the religions which fall into the greater parameters of New Age beliefs, the consideration of striving to become a ‘god’ is an integral part of the doctrine.
Really though, while it’s true that you and I spawn life, do we actually create it out of whatever chemicals make up the construction of life, itself? Other than the fact we can impose death on someone by pulling the trigger or whatever, in the course of natural death – do we rule precisely when, how and why death occurs. And how about Eternity? Don’t we merely choose to believe whatever suits our fancy? And even change our belief system depending upon our age, education and cultural surroundings?
Then aren’t we wise to stick with the conclusion that God is the only God and He makes the rules? Rather than striving to become a ‘god’, isn’t it most wise to strive to learn how He thinks and determine what those rules are? Then strive to conform to whatever those rules require of us? Shouldn’t we strive to be… Like Him, …rather than attempting to sway God to become… Like Us?

Who is God?
Is He Like Us?

Isa 55:8-9 NIV
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
9“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
This Section is principally structured to offer you reasonable considerations about how God might think. Certainly, I don’t have the whole mind of God, but still… according to the Bible, in a very real sense, I do have a good sense of it. That, because the Bible specifically says we Believers have the ‘mind of Christ’. (1 Cor 2: 16) (Assuming our Born Again mind and heart diligently seek to become one with Him.)
See if what is written in this section might, from a layman’s perspective, be along the lines God’s own reasoning would support. If the few things offered within these ‘God’ Pages make a reasonable amount of sense to you, know then that from God’s perspective you are indeed treasured; you are loved! So then… if not yet Born Again, consider becoming so. (Salvation) After all, the time we have remaining on this Earth before the very Last Day is very, very short. (See ‘Most Obvious Signs‘. And importantly… the following, ‘Fulfillment’ section, as well.)
For Your Consideration…
We humans are so very prideful. We (most often unknowingly) imagine we are like God believing that to the degree we think this way or that, similarly… to one degree or other God sees life in a similar manner.
Such thoughts, unfortunately, often lead us toward one of two extremes…
1) We either believe God automatically excuses us in the same manner we often excuse our own failings. In that we’ve often ‘justified’ our own ill expressed thoughts and actions, we expect that God sees things as we do.
But it’s worse than that… Thinking long term, when we recurrently ‘justify’ this or that we perhaps even unknowingly school ourselves into a lifestyle wherein we become increasingly void of taking personal responsibility for ourselves.
Or,
2) We believe God automatically condemns us in the same manner we condemn ourselves for our own grievous errors.
But it’s worse than that… We develop a subconscious habit of self condemnation which quite understandably, recurrently inhibits our ability to obtain the best that God would otherwise bestow upon our lives. Not only for ourselves, but also for those of whom we have developed a degree of influence over.
What we’ve done when starting along the tract which leads toward either one of the two above noted standards is to have thought along the lines that God is made… in our image. Really though, doesn’t it make more sense to clearly recognize our worldview ‘is found wanting’ and… obviously …has no place within His entire Standard of Existence? Neither on Earth nor in Heaven.
No, friend, God is not made in our image and whatever we might conjure up along the lines noted above simply cannot be a part of His Reality. We hurt ourselves when during the course of our walk through life we employ such considerations. And yes, we hurt God, because when we place… our thoughts, our word, our deeds, our lifestyle, our worldview …above His, He becomes stymied in His ability to nurture us toward a better, more fulfilled life. That, because He has given us ‘Free Choice’ and will not inhibit that gift. How foolish then, are we to continue thinking and acting along such ‘anti-Christ’ lines?
God truly does think and act vastly differently than we do.
And that is VERY GOOD for us!
For instance: Though normally it is relatively easy for us to in some fashion forsake or at least keep at arms length anyone who has sinned against us, God though, until the point of our death will never, ever forsake us… regardless of the number of times we sin against Him or our fellow man. (By the way… sinning against our fellow man is actually sinning against God.)
It is easy for God to continue to love us… regardless of our sins! Though a bit ‘off center’ as an explanation, I think you’ll understand through the ‘PeePee’ example found through the below link that God does indeed have the profound ability to love and forgive us ALWAYS. In that example I think you’ll begin to see quite clearly there is no need for us to inhibit our ‘life progression’ by means of employing the destructive habits noted in 1, 2, above. Not at all… especially when discovering it is really quite easy for God to love, forgive and nurture us. No matter what!
